Would you like to join our distinguished faculty for the 2018 SCBWI annual Fall Conference? We are now accepting speaker proposals through March 15, 2018.
To apply fill out an application HERE.
All members are encouraged to send proposals, whether you are a PAL, Full or Associate member, writer, illustrator, librarian or educator. Your unique insight to children’s books and art is what counts. Break-out session speakers are required to register and attend the whole conference. Up to three books by the presenters may be requested to be sold at the bookstore during the conference. The bookstore reserves the right to acquire books as it is able.
Location: Green Lake Resort, Green Lake, WI
Dates: September 21-23, 2018
Presentation times: 45-60 minute breakout sessions (mostly on Saturday 9/23)
Theme: Reality Check: Exploring Truth (We are encouraging applicants to consider this theme as they submit their proposals. Also, as you create a title/description for your presentation, please target it to our audience: professional adult writers and illustrators working in the children’s publishing industry. If you have used your presentation at conferences for educators/librarians/other professionals, you may benefit from tweaking it to fit the needs of this conference.)
DEADLINE TO APPLY: March 15, 2018
This year, we will be selecting workshops based on qualification/experience of speaker(s) in subject area or topic in addition to appeal for our members. Duration of presentation: 45-60 minutes. Your time may be divided between lecture format, hands-on workshop, Q & A – or whatever best fits the presentation.
Compensation: FREE conference registration**
*Most breakout presentations will be scheduled for Saturday, September 23. However, if you are applying to do a keynote speech, these may be scheduled on Friday evening, Saturday, or Sunday morning. Please indicate on your application the dates/times you are unable to present in between Friday afternoon and Sunday afternoon. If not indicated, we will assume you will be joining us for the full conference.
**Does not include hotel cost or optional critique fee. Please note that if you have co-presenters or are proposing a panel, the compensation amount (one registration fee) will be split between participants. An important part of the SCBWI tradition is to allow professional writers/illustrators an opportunity to give back to their peer group. This is an excellent way to support the writing/illustrating community in Wisconsin. Your willingness to present at the conference in exchange for the registration fee is greatly appreciated.
OTHER VALUABLE INFORMATION:
If accepted for the Fall 2018 Conference, you’ll be asked to supply a publicity photo for use in the registration materials. Please have one ready in jpeg format.
If accepted, it is your responsibility to register for the conference and make accommodations/reservations for lodging at the Green Lake Resort. Hotel cost is not covered for breakout speakers. If you would like a critique of your work, there is also an additional fee payable upon registration. Critiques are not included in the registration.
SCBWI-WI will not reimburse for any travel related expenses. Remember, many out-of-pocket business expenses can be deducted. Speak to your tax professional for advice in this area.
