SCBWI-WI is a supportive group of writers and illustrators who come together at an annual spring luncheon to hone their craft and network with other writers and illustrators. To help honor the diversity in Wisconsin that should be represented in our children’s and teen literature, the SCBWI-WI Diversity Committee is offering two scholarships to the Spring Luncheon on April 8th. The scholarship will provide financial aid to two individuals that personally identify with what is presently the non-majority experience, and have not yet published a book (picture book, middle grade or young adult) through a traditional PAL-level publisher.
Please include the following information in your application:
Answers to these questions (aim for about 500 words):
1) How you personally identify with the non-majority experience in children’s literature? We define underrepresented voices as people of color, LGBTQIAP+ folks, ethnic, cultural, or religious minorities, people with disabilities, first/native nations people, and immigrants.
2) Why do you want to attend the Spring Luncheon, and what do you hope to get out of it?
3) Describe your financial need. How would this scholarship help you overcome a financial hurdle?
Send your response to Mel Hammond at firstname.lastname@example.org by the end of the day on March 18th.
